Folks living in South Korea will now be able to pick up the SPH-W9705 rugged clamshell handset, also known as the Samsung Extreme. Available on an exclusive basis to KT, the Anycall Extreme will come in a sporty albeit secure design, where it uses reinforced plastic to prevent it from experiencing some really nasty accidental damage that would befall a standard handset during an accident. Being IP54-certified means it is dust- and water-proof, working just fine in extremely low or high temperatures. For $354 thereabouts, you will also get an electronic compass, altimeter and SOS function with it.

Most of us don’t use cassette tapes anymore, and the next generation probably won’t even know what they are, but there’s nothing wrong with paying tribute to the humble cassette tape, right? If you’re in agreement, then the Funkyfonic Cassette MP3 Speaker might just be what you’re looking for. It’s (very obviously) an external speaker, which can plug into a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and is powered by two AA batteries. The price of getting these retro-looking speakers is $22.

While Apple’s products are well known for being sleek and pretty, there’s nothing wrong with you coming up with a gruff docking station for your iPod, right? That’s probably what the creator of this Industrial Double iPod Dock was thinking when he came up with it. Apparently it’s made from rusty old parts from the second hand hardware store, which is rather cool. That being said, we do have to (politely) disagree with the description on the product page where it says it will make a great engagement or wedding present.

The Neofonie WePad is a cheeky attempt at a wordplay on the iPad, and it is surprising to see it come from the Germans whom we thought were much more serious in their undertakings. Still, the WePad boasts German efficiency (and hopefully, build) with an 11.6" display at 1,366 x 768 resolution, an Intel Atom 1.66GHz N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, a batter that lasts for up to 6 hours, an integrated webcam, a couple of USB ports and a memory card reader. Oh yeah, we left out the UMTS modem which allows you to hook up to the WePad App Store. Apart from that, this Android-powered device will also feature access to the Android Market - now how about that!

Just in case you are overworked at the office and can't tell that all those palpitations and sweaty palms are but the results of stress, here's a pair of socks from ETH Zurich’s Electronics Laboratory that will monitor your stress levels so that you can identify the tipping point to prevent burnout and depression more effectively. Since our body secretes more sweat when under stress, sensors have been included into normal socks so that it can get to work, knowing just how much stress you have accumulated over the week to provide you with a warning to slow down and take things easy.

The folks at BGR compared the AT&T unit of the Google Nexus One with their T-Mobile model (above left), and realized that the display doesn't seem to measure up. After using it in a variety of situations, it looks as though the hue is completely purple or red. It seems that this is not an isolated incident, as there are other people who have also experienced a similar situation. Hopefully this will be sorted out soon.

Add to myYahoo!Scanning documents can be quite a painfully slow process, especially if you are using an older model. New scanners for the home user ain't that speedy either, but how about this high speed scanner which is capable of digitizing an entire book as you flip through its pages? It has a scanning rate of approximately 200 pages per minute, and can only go faster from there. Thanks to professor Masatoshi Ishikawa from the University of Tokyo, this super fast book scanner could very well be the next big thing. It features a 1,280 x 1,024 pixel sensor which runs at 500 frames per second, where it is capable of capturing an image of the text and diagrams on a page, while a second pass will capture a series of parallel laser lines which allows software to calculate and correct for 3D deformations on the page as it’s being flipped. This is not a fully automated process though, so it will still require human assistance.

Here’s some good news for you as we move closer to the weekend. In celebration of the full launch of Skype Access, which allows you to connect to participating Wi-Fi hotspots globally in a pay-per-minute model, Skype is offering free Wi-Fi access at over 100,000 hotspots worldwide this weekend (20-21 March 2010). The deal runs from 0000 GMT on Saturday 20 March 2010 to 2359 GMT on Sunday 21 March 2010, so make sure you don’t get the dates wrong. Once you’re at a Skype Access compatible hotspot, you’ll only need your laptop and the latest version of Skype and you’re good to go. The icing on the cake is that if you’re at a UK airport, Skype has extended the offer in the UK to 2359 on Monday 22nd March, so you get a little extra mileage over there. Sounds like a good deal, doesn’t it? Are you planning to give it a go over the weekend?

While the iPad isn't even out yet, a member of the Chronic Dev Team is working on a jailbreak for the device, where he is already accepting donations as he gets his hands down and dirty. No idea on just how jailbreak-able iPhone OS 3.2 will be, so it really boils down to his skill as well as plenty of good faith from the donors. Still, we are sure that the iPad can be jailbroken - the question is, who will be the first to do so successfully?
